Heat Illness <br /> Prevention Program 2.23 <br /> 1. PURPOSE <br /> Roux Associates, Inc. and its affiliated companies, Roux Environmental Engineering and Geology, D.P.C, and <br /> Remedial Engineering (collectively, "Roux"), have established this heat illness prevention program to assist in <br /> preventing workplace accidents, injuries, and illnesses associated with temperature extremes. Roux is committed <br /> to taking every precaution to protect employees who might be exposed to heat stress, including establishing safe <br /> work practices, heat illness prevention controls, and emergency preparedness, which will be detailed in this plan. <br /> 2. SCOPE AND APPLICABILITY <br /> Roux's Heat Illness Prevention Program applies to all employees and subcontractors who may be exposed to <br /> heat stress in the field. <br /> 3. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br /> The Heat Illness Prevention Program Administrator for Roux is the Corporate Health and Safety Director(CHSD), <br /> Brian Hobbs, CIH, CSP. The daily administration of the program is delegated to the Operations Manager (OM) , <br /> Office Health and Safety Manager (OHSM), and Site Health and Safety Officer (SHSO). The CHSD has the <br /> authority, responsibility, and overall accountability for the comprehensive implementation of this program. <br /> All managers and supervisors shall implement and maintain the heat illness prevention program in work areas <br /> where there is a potential for heat stress. <br /> Management Responsibilities <br /> Management (i.e., Project Managers, Project Principals, OM) must provide the following to promote compliance <br /> and foster a good safety culture: <br /> • Comply with applicable standards. <br /> • Inform employees of the provisions of the heat illness prevention program and ensure understanding. <br /> • Provide sufficient water, shade, rest areas, and other heat illness controls for employees. <br /> • Assist with establishing work practices to minimize heat stress risks, such as acclimatization, required rest <br /> periods, employee monitoring, and strategic scheduling. <br /> • Encourage employees to report hazardous conditions or heat illness symptoms. <br /> • Provide training to any employee who could possibly be exposed to the risk of heat illness. <br /> Employee Responsibilities <br /> Employees are expected to actively participate in the organization's heat illness prevention program,which includes <br /> the following responsibilities: <br /> • Receive appropriate training with regard to heat stress. <br /> • Understand core concepts of heat illness prevention and follow guidelines to mitigate risks. <br /> • Recognize the signs and symptoms of heat illness and immediately report them. <br /> • Cooperate with workplace inspections and incident investigations. <br /> Effective Communication <br /> All Roux employees shall be accountable for ensuring there is effective communication with both the field team and <br /> their subcontractors.
