1.4.3.2 Sample Packaging and Shipment
A sample label will be affixed to each sample container with clear tape for proper
identification in the field and for tracking in the laboratory.The sample labels will include
the following information:
• Job number;
• Sample identification number;
• Sampler's initials;
• Date and time of collection; and,
• Preservative.
The samples collected will be placed in bottles provided by the laboratory in the
appropriate laboratory-specific cooler as soon as sampled. During sample processing and
storage, exposure of the samples to light will be minimized. Samples will be placed in
sealed Ziploc bags and placed in a cooler containing ice which has been double-bagged
in Ziploc bags and appropriately secured to avoid meltwater from contacting sample
containers.
All samples will be chilled during shipment and will not exceed 6° Celsius. The samples
will be transported directly to the laboratory by the field sampler or courier.
1.4.4 Clean-Up and Decontamination
Prior to groundwater sample collection, all sampling devices will be cleaned thoroughly.
Non-dedicated equipment will be decontaminated before and after collection of each
sample. Decontamination of any non-dedicated sampling equipment will be conducted
using laboratory certified VOC-free water. General decontamination of field equipment
will proceed under the following decontamination steps: i)rinse with VOC-free water; ii)
scrub with Liquinox soap solution; and iii)re-rinse with VOC-free water. Captured fluids
will be containerized in drums and analyzed for proper disposal.
The drums will be properly labeled and stored onsite. Following waste characterization,
the drums and wastes will be disposed at an approved offsite waste disposal facility by a
licensed waste hauler.
