Additional samples may be <br />required by the SJCEHD to adequately characterize the excavation. <br />All soil samples shall be collected at a minimum of 2 vertical feet into native material. <br />If areas of obvious contamination are observed, they are also to be sampled. <br />Samples must be discrete and cannot be combined into a composite sample for analysis in the field <br />or the lab. Each sample must have a set of corresponding analytical results. <br />TANK – IF WATER IS NOT PRESENT IN THE TANK PIT <br />Tank Size Minimum # of <br />Soil Samples Location of Soil Samples <br />Less than 12,000 gallons 2 per tank 1 from below the tank invert, directly below each <br />opposite end of the tank <br />Equal to or more than <br />12,000 gallons 3 per tank 1 from below the center of the tank and 1 from below <br />each end of the tank, below the tank invert <br />TANK – IF WATER IS PRESENT IN THE TANK PIT <br />Tank Size Minimum # of <br />Soil Samples Location of Soil Samples <br />Less than 12,000 gallons 2 per tank* 1 from the side wall next to opposite ends of the tank, <br />at the soil/groundwater interface <br />Equal to or more than <br />12,000 gallons, or tank cluster 4 per tank* 1 from the side wall next to each end of the tank, at <br />the soil/groundwater interface <br />*A minimum of 1 water sample shall be taken from the tank pit. The tank pit may be purged and allowed to refill <br />before sampling. The water is to be representative of the water in the tank pit. If water is purged, a hazardous <br />waste determination must be made for all purged water in accordance with Title 22 hazardous waste regulations, <br />and any waste water disposed of under appropriate manifest, as required. <br />TANK – IF A SLAB IS PRESENT IN THE TANK PIT <br />All samples shall be obtained beneath the slab within native soils. Penetration through the slab will be <br />required in order to collect the samples. Additional soil samples may be required. <br />PIPING, DISPENSERS & STOCKPILES <br />Connected piping 1 sample for every 20 linear feet and below each pipe fitting <br />Dispensers 1 sample below each removed dispenser <br />Soil Stockpile 1 sample per 100 cubic yards of soil, taken between 2-4 feet below the <br />surface of the stockpile <br />References: California LUFT Manual: September 2012 (rev.
