2 of 2 <br />Environmental Health Department <br />MINIMUM VERIFICATION ANALYSES1 <br />FOR UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK INVESTIGATIONS2 <br />1Soils shall be analyzed in accordance with California Code of Regulations, Title 23, section 2649 for all <br />constituents of the previously stored hazardous substances and their breakdown or transformation products. If <br />the checked analytes do not represent all constituents, additional analyses may be required. <br />2If soil or other waste will be disposed of as hazardous waste, a complete hazardous waste determination must <br />be made in accordance with California Code of Regulations, Title 22 regulations. <br />Definitions: <br />VOCs: volatile organic compounds <br />3VOCs must include the following, at a minimum (including lead scavengers, fuel oxygenates, chlorinated hydrocarbons): <br />BTEX: benzene, toluene, ethylene, xylene <br />MTBE: methyl tertiary butyl ether <br />TBA: t-butyl alcohol <br />EDC: 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) <br />EDB: 1,2-dibromoethane <br />Cl-VOCs: chlorinated volatile organic compounds <br />ETBE: ethyl tert-butyl ether <br />Naphthalene <br />TAME: tert-Amyl methyl ether <br />DIPE: diisopropyl ether <br />PCE: tetrachloroethylene <br />TCE: trichloroethylene <br />DCE: cis-1,2-dichloroethylene <br />Trans-1,2,-dichloroethene <br />Vinyl Chloride <br />Reference: California LUFT Manual: September 2012 (rev.
