Watch where you walk, do not take backward steps, avoid <br />walking on wet surfaces, wear boots with adequate tread and a <br />raised heel for traction. <br />2. Keep a firm grip on bag, do not lift more than 50lbs. without <br />using the "buddy system" or mechanical means for assistance. <br />Lift with the strength of your legs and not your back, keep knees <br />slightly bent, hold load as close to the body as possible, do not <br />over extend your arms while holding the bag or it can cause <br />strain to shoulders and lower back. <br />3. Drink at least one quart of water per hour, stop work if you <br />feel faint or dizzy. <br />4. Stay out of the line-of-fire, do not work with your back toward <br />equipment, make sure they equipment operator can see you, <br />assign a dedicated spotter if you cannot maintain eye contact <br />with operator, ensure that all equipment being used has a <br />working back-up alarm. <br />5. If exposure to fumes from hot asphalt mix is problematic, <br />increase your distance, wear a respirator or stop work. Notify <br />your Supervisor. <br />6. Do not attempt to touch hot asphalt mix or tar used for hot <br />mopping.
