Service animals:
It prohibits animals in two specific areas of a body-art facility:
1. The procedure area (where body art is actually performed)
2. The decontamination & sterilization area (where instruments are cleaned/
sterilized)
The only exception is for service animals, as defined under the federal Americans
with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The intent is to maintain sanitary conditions and reduce risk of contamination in
areas where body art procedures and instrument sterilization occur.
Practical implications for body-art facilities
Practitioners and facility owners must ensure that no pets, animals, or non-service
animals are present in those specified areas.
Service animals may enter those areas (provided they qualify as service animals
under the ADA).
