California Department of Water Resources; Guidance Document for
Geotechnical Analyses, Urban Levee Evaluations, Project Contract
4600008101; April 2015.
Dear Mr. Peterson:
We prepared this letter to provide results of our preliminary dewatering evaluation for the Railcar
Unloading Building construction. We understand that the Railcar Unloading Building will be
constructed in the eastern part of the site in a currently undeveloped part of Rough and Ready Island.
The existing grade in this area is approximately Elevation 0 feet, North American Vertical Datum of
1988 (NAVD88). The grade will be raised to accommodate a rail embankment and a pre-engineered
metal building over 30 feet tall will be constructed over the embankment. The building will have
below-grade construction to accommodate collection of bulk soda ash that will be bottom dumped
from the rail cars and transferred to a conveyor system. The building will have two levels of
below-grade construction. The first below-grade level will be oriented perpendicular to the rail
embankment and above-grade building and will have approximate dimensions of 36 feet wide by
200 feet long; the floor of this level will be around Elevation -9.5 feet in preliminary plans. The second
below-grade level will be oriented perpendicular to the levels above and have a finished floor around
Elevation -23.5 feet and be connected to an approximately 230-foot-long, 13.5-foot-tall by
15-foot-wide conveyor tunnel that slopes up to the ground surface.
17278 Golden Valley Parkway, Lathrop CA 95330 • (209)835-0610• Fax(888)279-2698
www.engeo.com
