6.8.1 Proposed Soil and Groundwater Sample Analysis
Soil exhibiting petroleum hydrocarbon odor and/or discoloration or PID measurements above
ambient air background concentrations will be collected and contained for analysis of VOCs in
accordance with EPA Method 8260; TPH-g,TPH-d, and TPH-mo in accordance with EPA Method
8015; polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in accordance with EPA Method 8082; and polyaromatic
hydrocarbons(PAHs)in accordance with EPA Method 8270. Soil samples will also be analyzed for
California Leaking Underground Fuel Tank Guidance Manual (LUFT; September 2012) metals
including cadmium, chromium, nickel, lead, and zinc in accordance with EPA Method 6010.
One soil sample from the 5-foot depth(total of five samples) from the borings used to install MW-1
through MW-5 will be collected for analysis of background concentrations of the "LUFT metals".
If there is evidence of a release at one or more of these borings, another location will be selected for
background sampling.
Grab groundwater samples will be collected within first encountered groundwater anticipated to be
at 10 to 12 feet bgs for VOCs in accordance with EPA Method 8260 and TPH-g, TPH-d, and TPH-
mo in accordance with EPA Method 8015.
6.9 Proposed Assessment of Environmentally Persistent Pesticides
Ten proposed soil samples from approximately two feet bgs (or from within native soil beneath
recognized imported fill encountered at each sample location) at the historical locations of barns,
sheds, outbuildings and portable agricultural equipment. Proposed sample locations are shown
on Figure 11. Efforts will be made to collect soil samples to be analyzed for OCPs from borings
advanced for the purpose of assessing the petroleum hydrocarbon release where borings can be
located to support both tasks.
The soil borings will be continuously cored using a Geoprobe direct push rig in order to review soil
cores within acetate sleeves for the presence of undisturbed native soil that may underlie imported
fill material
Based on observations of native soil within the acetate sleeves will be analyzed for OCPs by EPA
Method 8081.
Soil borings will be backfilled with granular bentonite and capped with concrete or asphalt patch.
6.10 Proposed Management of Investigation Derived Waste
Investigation derived waste (IDW) consisting of drill cuttings (soil) and any decontamination
fluids will be temporarily contained in DOT-approved steel 55-gallon drums.
