BACKGROUND <br /> This section presents a summary of background information for the Site, including location and <br /> description, environmental seeing, historical use, and previous investigations and results. <br /> 2.1 SITE LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION <br /> A Site location map is provided as Figure 2-1. The HSA building occupies the majority of the <br /> city block bounded by Marke(, Washington, San Joaquin and Sutter Sheets in downtown <br /> Stockton, California. A Fanner gasoline service station (Site) was located at the corner of <br /> Washington and Sutter lateral. The Site address is 145 South Sutter Street (Latitude 370 5705.411 <br /> North, Longitude 1210 17' 08.21' West). <br /> The Site lice as an approximate elevation of 16 f above moan .sea level (MSL) in the imrthem <br /> Nation of San Joaquin Valley. McLeod Lake is located I,700 feet northwest of the site; the lake <br /> Flows to the Stockton Deep Water Channel and the San Joaquin River. The site is located in a <br /> densely developed urban area in downtown Stockton. The site is bounded to the west and north <br /> by the HSA building, to the south by Washington Street and a parking lot beneath Ilighway 4, and <br /> m the east by Sutter Strestand a rcsumxm. <br /> Prior to redevelopment of the Site and construction of the IISA building, a gasoline station was <br /> located at the southeast corner ofthe Site at Elie intersection of Fist Washington Street and South <br /> Sutter Street. All known USTs associated with the former gasoline station were removed prior to <br /> redevelopment of the Site. In April and May 1988, the following nine USTs were removed in the <br /> vicinity of a former gasoline service station which operated at the canter of Sutter and Washington <br /> Steven. <br /> 1) Two 10,000 gallon unleaded gasoline UST; <br /> 2) One 5,000 Plan super unleaded gasoline DST' <br /> 3) Two 550 gallon leaded gasoline USTs <br /> 4) One 500 gallon used oil UST <br />
