A=COM <br /> 4.6.5 Warning tape, pea gravel, sand, non-indigenous material, bentonite, red concrete(indicative of <br /> electrical duct banks)and any departure from native soil or backfill may be evidence of the <br /> presence of subsurface installations and utilities. <br /> 4.7 Surface Markings <br /> 4.7.1 Once the underground installation has been identified, proper surface markings shall be made in <br /> accordance with the guidelines from the One-Call System (refer to S3AM-331-ATT1 ), guidance <br /> contained in this procedure or as contract-specified. <br /> 4.7.2 Color-coded surface marks(paints or similar coatings)shall be used to indicate the type, location, <br /> and route of buried installations.Additionally, to increase visibility, color-coded vertical markers <br /> (temporary stakes or flags)shall supplement surface marks. <br /> 4.7.3 All marks and markers shall indicate the name, initials, or logo of the company that owns or <br /> operates the installation and the width of the installation if it is greater than 2 inches. <br /> 4.7.4 If the surface over the buried installation is to be removed, supplemental offset marking shall be <br /> used. Offset markings shall be on a uniform alignment and shall clearly indicate that the actual <br /> installation is a specific distance away. <br /> 4.7.5 Locate marks shall be re-verified as per jurisdictional requirements or no later than 14 days after <br /> the previous locate was completed,whichever interval is shorter. These locate time intervals shall <br /> be maintained for the duration of the ground disturbance. <br /> • If the work is interrupted during the determined lifespan or work does not commence during <br /> the applicable lifespan, a new locate shall be performed. <br /> • Jurisdictional provisions may allow for an extension to the lifespan of the locate marks, <br /> however certain conditions may need to be met. (e.g. activities uninterrupted) <br /> • If locate marks are moved or destroyed the location of the buried facilities shall be re- <br /> established. <br /> 4.8 Uniform Color Coding <br /> 4.8.1 The colors and corresponding installation type are as follows unless otherwise contract-specified: <br /> AMERICAN PUBLIC WORKS ASSOCIATION—APWA <br /> Color Coding for Marking of Buried Facilities <br /> White Proposed Ground Disturbance Area <br /> Pink Temporary Survey Markings <br /> Red Ele <br /> Yellow Gas,Oil,Steam, Petroleum Lines or Gaseous Materials <br /> Orange Conduit,Cable,Communication,Alarm or Signal Lines <br /> Potable Water <br /> MWeclaimed Water,Irrigation and Slurry Lines . . <br /> Canadian Association of Geophysical Contractors <br /> Underground Utilities(S3AM-331-PR1) <br /> Revision 2 September 30,2020 <br /> PRINTED COPIES ARE UNCONTROLLED.
