Also, note that the AEI Subsurface Clearance Policy <br /> included as Appendix E uses a different color scheme for marking temporary utilities. <br /> • Contact the site contact/relevant utility for guidance. <br /> • Contact the PM/Director and SSO. <br /> 8.1.5 Striking an Underground Electrical/Telecom Cable <br /> • Stop work, remove tools ONLY if safe to do so (operator seats in excavators are normally <br /> electrically isolated ALTHOUGH OTHER PARTS MAY BE LIVE IF STILL IN CONTACT WITH <br /> A LIVE CABLE). <br /> • Evacuate the immediate area. <br /> • In the event of injuries provide first aid and summon medical assistance. <br /> • Contact the site contact. <br /> • Contact the PM and SSO. <br /> • Contact the electricity/telecom provider, as directed by site contact and/or PM. <br /> • Do not allow anyone to enter the area of the excavation until the electricity provider has <br /> made the cable safe. <br /> 8.1.6 Striking a Pressurized Gas Pipeline <br /> • Stop work, leave tools in-place but shut off any running equipment, including engines. <br /> • Evacuate the immediate area. <br /> • Ensure there are no sources of ignition in the area. <br /> • Contact the site contact. <br /> • Contact the PM and SSO. <br /> • Contact the pipeline owner, as directed by site contact and/or PM. <br /> • Do not re-enter the immediate area until safe to do so. <br /> 8.1.7 Striking a Pressurized Water Main <br /> • Stop work, remove tools if safe to do so, and if necessary and safe to do so, confine jetting <br /> water, if appropriate. <br /> • Evacuate immediate area and inform site personnel. <br /> • Ensure that water flowing away is not creating potential hazards (e.g., electrical shorting, <br /> flooding, contaminant migration etc.) and where possible warn those likely to be affected. <br /> • Contact the site contact. <br /> • Contact the PM and SSO. <br /> • Contact the pipeline owner, as directed by site contact and/or PM. <br /> • Do not re-enter the immediate area until safe to do so. <br /> Page 11 <br />
