CDIM Corporate Safety Program <br /> ChM HSP-2. Respiratory Protection <br /> °•° °°°..•° Rev. 1 08/23/2018 <br /> HSP-2. RESPIRATORY PROTECTION <br /> HEALTH AND SAFETY PROCEDURE <br /> 1 .0 PURPOSE <br /> The purpose of this health and safety procedure (HSP) is to describe procedures for the selection, fit <br /> testing and proper use and maintenance of respiratory protection equipment. This HSP is intended to <br /> comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations (1910.134), to conform <br /> with Cal/OSHA General Industry Safety Orders (Sec. 5144), and to provide proper respiratory equipment <br /> training to CDIM personnel for protection against inhalation of harmful contaminants when engineering <br /> controls are not in place. <br /> Use of respiratory protection during emergencies and when conditions are immediately dangerous to life <br /> or health (IDLH) are not within the scope of this procedure. CDIM personnel are not expected to respond <br /> to emergency or IDLH situations. These events will be addressed by emergency response agencies as <br /> identified in PHSPs. <br /> 2.0 APPLICABILITY <br /> This procedure applies to all CDIM personnel who may be potentially exposed to an inhalation hazard via <br /> harmful substances during their work. Contractors and visitors must also comply with the requirements of <br /> this procedure, but, with the approval of the HSPM, may do so by implementing their own equally <br /> stringent procedure. <br /> 3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES <br /> Role Responsibility <br /> Project Manager(PM) The PM is responsible for the safe and effective implementation of <br /> this procedure. <br /> Health and Safety Program The HSPM is the Respiratory Protection Program Coordinator and is <br /> Manager(HSPM) responsible for: <br /> • Technical assistance in determining the need for respirators <br /> and in the selection of appropriate respirator types; <br /> • Periodic evaluation of the respirator program; <br /> • Educational materials and programs to be used in worker <br /> training; and <br /> • Administering the overall program. <br /> Site Health and Safety The Site Health and Safety Officer(SHSO) assists the HSPM in <br /> Officer implementing the program in the field and acts under the technical <br /> direction of the HSPM. The SHSO's responsibilities include: <br /> • Surveillance of work area conditions; <br /> • Implementing training, instruction, and fit testing programs; <br /> • Provision of appropriate respirators; <br /> • Ensuring that workers wear respirators as required; and <br /> • Recordkee in . <br /> Employee (and Employees are responsible for: <br /> subcontractors) 0 Using the respirator supplied to him/her in accordance with <br /> instructions and training; <br /> • Cleaning, disinfecting, inspecting and storing his/her <br /> respirator after each use; and <br /> • Reporting a respirator malfunction to the SHSO. <br /> Page 1 of 13 <br />
