TRC 1850 Gateway Blvd. T 510.446.8301
Suite 1000 TRCcomp anies.com
Concord.CA 94520
March 14, 2023
Subject: Soil Sampling Workplan
BNSF Mariposa Intermodal Facility
Stockton, California
On behalf of the BNSF Railway Company (BNSF), TRC Solutions, Inc. (TRC) has prepared this
Soil Sampling Workplan (Workplan)for the Mariposa Intermodal Facility in Stockton, California
(Site).
1.0 Introduction and Background
TRC Solutions, Inc. (TRC) has prepared this Workplan to outline the proposed soil sampling
scope for the Mariposa Intermodal Facility expansion at the BNSF Stockton facility. As part of the
expansion project, a chassis parking lot will be constructed, which will include soil grading and
trenching to install storm sewers and utilities. Therefore, sampling is required to characterize the
soil that will be excavated with the anticipation to reuse it elsewhere onsite during the same
construction project.
2.0 Scope of Work
2.1 Pre-Field Activities
Before the start of drilling and sampling activities, a soil boring permit will be obtained from the
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department. The proposed boring locations will be
marked with white paint and/or stakes according to Underground Services Alert (USA)
requirements. USA will be notified more than 48 hours prior to commencing work at the Site.
Additionally, a private utility locator service will be deployed to clear proposed boring locations
for potential underground utilities.
A comprehensive Health and Safety Plan (HASP) will be prepared for the Site. The intent of the
HASP is to ensure the health and safety of onsite project employees, visitors, and the public
during site work. The HASP identifies all policy, procedures, and systems to be followed by
project personnel and is required to be followed by TRC employees, subcontractors, vendors,
visitors, and agency representatives at the Site.
A copy of the HASP will be readily available during the soil sampling activities. Prior to any Site
activity, TRC will conduct a "tailgate" health and safety meeting with all Site workers to discuss
the health and safety issues and concerns related to the specific work. All Site workers involved
in the field activities will review and sign the TRC HASP before work begins.
2.2 Soil Sampling
TRC will complete the investigation by collecting soil from a total of 13 locations (see attached
Figures and Table 1). Boring depths will range from approximately 1.5 to 15 feet, depending on
location and depth of proposed storm sewers and utility lines. TRC will collect 1 to 2 soil
samples at each boring, depending on depth, for a total of 20 samples.
