I
APPENDIX A
EXPLORATORY BORING AND WELL INSTALLATION
PROCEDURES
TM general procedures, which will be used for drilling exploratory borings, collecting
samples, and installing monitoring wells, are described in this appendix. ]here general
procedures are used to provide consistent and reproducible results; however, conditions
may exist where variations of these procedures are applicable. The following procedures
supervised by a California staWregiste rst geologist.
B-Zone Exploratory Sol] Borings and Well Installation
Procedures
The exploratory soil borings for the B-zone groundwater monitoring well will be drilled
using Iz-inch-diameter. continuous-night, hollow-stem auger drilling equipment. The
boring will be drilled down to a depth of approximately five fact below the screened
interval of the adjacent A-Zone. Monitoring Well MW- (approximately by fact bgs) and
conductor casing will be handled in the boring. The conductor will be placed in the
borehole and driven approximately one to two feet into the clay soil. The annular space
will be grouted to the surface with a cenrent and bentonite grout. The conductor pipe
gram seal will be allowed to set for a nnidmum of24 hours before drilling proceeds. The
boring will continue using B--inch diameter hollow-stem pagers to total depth.
Soil samples for logging will be obtained from auger-retum materials and by advancing a
modified California split-spoon sampler equipped with brass or stainless sleet liners into
undisturbed soil beyond the tip of the auger. Soils will be logged by an Tf geologist
according to the Unified Soil Classification System and standard geological techniques.
The soil snorters will be cleaned with a detergent water solution, wised with clean
water, and Nuipped with clean liners between samplingval intes. Augers and samples
will be sleam cleaned between each boring to reduce the possibility of cross
contarumation.
Drill cuttings generated during the drilling procedure will be stockpiled on site.
Stockpiled drill coatings will be placed on and covered with plastic sheeting. The
stockpiled soil will be characterized by collecting and analyzing composite samples from
the stockpile. IT will recommend an appropriate method for disposition of the cuttings
based on the analytical cents. The client is responsible for disposal of the drill cuttings.
lr vfiFv Mrno6
tuACpseocnumnme.nuvnuom6A at.::
