l I
Soil samples for chemical analysis will be collected in brass or stainless meet liners,
sealed with Teflon tape and plastic end caps, labeled, placed on ice, and delivered to a
statc-centified analytical laboratory, along with the appropriate chain-of-custody
documentation.
Monitoring Well Installation
Monitoring well MW-8 will be completed by installing 2 inch diameterSchedule 40
PVC casing The 2-inchdiameter flusb-throarl d casing is gusbally used fen wells
dedicated fen groundwater monitoring purposes. Five to ton feet of fedury machine
slotted well screen will be installed in the baring. A filler pack of graded send will be
placed in the amdm space between the PVC casing and the borehole wall. Send will be
added to the berebole through the hollow stem of the augers to provide a uniform fiber
pack around the casing and to stabilize the borehole. The sand pack will be placed to a
maximum of 2 feet above the screens followed by a minimum 1-foot seal consisting of
bducautepelles.
Cement grout containing 5 pemem hereunto will be placed above the bemo mite seal to
the ground aunt e. A locking monument will be installed over each monitoring well and
watertight cap will be installed over the bop of each well casing. Ref ce elevations
for each monitoring well will be surveyed to flm nearest 0.01-find relative to mean sea
level (MSL) or a snbe datum.
Sparge Well and Vadose Zone Monitoring Well Installation
The exploratory soil borings for the spurge wells and vadose zone monitoring wells will
be advanced using 8-hold-diameter, co us-flight, hollow-stem auger drilling
equipment. Soil sample far logging will be obtained brand eager Mum materials and by
advancing a modified California split-spoon sampler quipped with stainless steel lima
firto undisturbed soil beyond the tip of the auger. Soils will be logged by an IT geologist
consistent with the Unified Soil Classification System and standard geological
techniques.
The spurge wells and vadose zone monitoring wells will be constructed with t-mch-
diameter Schedule 40, flush-joint PVC casing and slotted PVC screen (0.WO-inch slot
width). The screen interval fen the spurge wells are anticryated to extend from a depth of
55 to 57 l has. The verbose same monitoring wells will be weaned from
approximmley 10 to 20 feet bgs. The vadese zone monitoring wells will be drilled to
depths of approximately 20 to 25 fee[ bgs. The vadoae zone monitoring wells will be
corvstructM with two-inch diameter.
Drill curdaps generated during the drilling procedure will be stockpiled on-site.
Stockpiled drill ratings will be placed on and covered with plastic sheeting. The
stockpiled soil is typically characterized by collecting and analyzing composite samples
from the stockpile. IT will recommend an appropriate method for disposition of the
rt Mn
