Cleanup in Vulnerable Communities'Initiative Discovery Project Reference:Favorite Cleaners <br /> and Enforcement Discovery Investigation Work Plan Project Number:60688620 <br /> collected at 5 and 15 feet bgs, and the sample identifications will indicate depth(e.g., SG-1-5'for the sample <br /> collected at 5 feet bgs and SG-1-15'for the sample collected at 15 feet bgs from soil vapor probe location SG-1). <br /> Additionally, six sub-slab vapor samples will be collected from within the Favorite Cleaners facility.The six sub-slab <br /> vapor pins will be located within the interior of the commercial building, and they will be paired with indoor air <br /> samples. One sub-slab vapor sample(SSV-1)will be collected in the former Boiler Room/current Kitchen southern <br /> side of the building. Two samples(SSV-2 and SSV-3)will be collected from the former Favorite Cleaners'building. <br /> Two samples(SSV-4 and SSV-5)will be collected from the J&S Flowers shop.One sample(SSV-6)will be collected <br /> from Carmen's Barber shop. <br /> Table 1 presents a summary of the active soil vapor and sub-slab vapor sampling and analyses planned for this <br /> Discovery Investigation. The proposed soil vapor and sub-slab vapor sample locations are depicted on Figures 4A <br /> and 4B. <br /> The sampling protocol for soil vapor and sub-slab vapor samples is discussed in Section 3.2.5.2 below. The analytical <br /> methods for soil vapor and sub-slab vapor samples are summarized in Section 3.2.6.1 below and Table 1. Field QC <br /> samples to be collected are discussed in Sections 3.2.5.6. and 3.2.6.4 below. <br /> The soil vapor probes, and sub-slab vapor pins will be decommissioned once approval has been received from the <br /> DTSC Project Manager per the attached decommissioning protocols in Appendix B. <br /> 3.2.2 Soil <br /> No soil matrix samples will be collected for laboratory analyses. To assist in planning soil vapor sampling depths, <br /> eight boreholes will be advanced at the soil vapor sampling location(s).At least one borehole will be continuously <br /> cored and will be completed to 16 feet bgs.The lithology of the cored samples will be logged in the field.The soil <br /> boring will be logged to terminal depth using the United Soil Classification System. Headspace testing will be <br /> performed using a photoionization detector(PID)to assess the presence of VOCs in recovered soil samples. <br /> Lithologic description and headspace testing will be documented on the boring logs. <br /> 3.2.3 Groundwater <br /> If groundwater is encountered, grab groundwater sampling will be performed in accordance with the Programmatic <br /> QAPP,which was prepared in accordance with the following Programmatic QAPPs for groundwater investigations: <br /> • Representative Sampling of Groundwater for Hazardous Substances(Cal EPA 2008); <br /> • Drilling, Logging, and Sampling at Contaminated Sites(Cal EPA 2013); <br /> • Well Design and Construction for Monitoring Groundwater at Contaminated Sites(Cal EPA 2014); and <br /> • Guidelines for Planning and Implementing Groundwater Characterization of Contaminated Sites(Cal EPA <br /> 2012). <br /> If groundwater is encountered during advancement of the boreholes for soil vapor well installation, grab groundwater <br /> samples will be collected from the boreholes. <br /> Groundwater samples will be collected in appropriate containers, stored in properly chilled coolers, and delivered to a <br /> California Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP)-certified laboratory. Groundwater samples will be <br /> analyzed for VOCs(including fuel oxygenates)using USEPA Method 82608. In addition, if needed, equipment rinsate <br /> blank samples will be collected as set forth in Section 3.2.5.6 below. Table 2 presents a summary of the water matrix <br /> sampling and analyses planned for this Discovery Investigation. The proposed groundwater sample locations are the <br /> same as soil vapor sampling locations(SG-1 to SG-6)and are depicted on Figure 4A. <br /> The sampling protocol for groundwater samples is discussed in Section 3.2.5.4 below.
