AECOM <br /> SOP 600 - Active Indoor/Ambient Air <br /> Sampling <br /> 1 PURPOSE AND SCOPE <br /> The purpose of this Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is to define the necessary <br /> steps/instructions for collecting accurate and representative site-specific indoor air samples <br /> to confirm the absence or presence of contamination. <br /> 2 FIELD PROTOCOLS - INDOOR AIR SAMPLES <br /> Samples are typically collected in 6-liter individually-certified evacuated canisters (i.e., <br /> Summa®or equivalent) from sampling locations throughout the targeted building. <br /> 2.1 Indoor Air Sampling Equipment <br /> The following is a list of equipment needed to perform the sampling activities: <br /> • Summa®canister, or equivalent, with a flow regulator from a certified laboratory (pre- <br /> calibrated for an 8 or 24-hour interval) <br /> • Field forms— Summa®Canister Field Sampling Data Sheet <br /> • Stand for canister or tubing <br /> • 1/4-inch stainless steel nuts and ferrules <br /> • 1/4-inch OD x 1/8-inch ID Teflon tubing <br /> • Chain of custody <br /> • FedEx forms <br /> • Standard wrench set <br /> • Digital camera <br /> • Sample splitter/T-bar regulator <br /> • Nitrile gloves <br /> • Decontamination materials and disposable supplies <br /> 2.2 Sample Designation <br /> Each sample that is collected will be assigned a unique alphanumeric sample designation as <br /> follows: "Site Initials — Sample Matrix— Location ID", sample type will be "IA", and the <br /> Location ID will be the numerical address and the sample number. If samples are submitted <br /> to a Tier 1 or 4 laboratory, then a unique RAS or DAS sample ID will also be incorporated in <br /> the sample designation. <br />
