October 11,2017 Page 3 of 5 Reference: Remediation Well Destruction Work Plan service will be hired to conduct a utility clearance of the area prior to the start of boring activities to minimize the potential that underground utilities or other subsurface structures might be encountered during the overdrilling and well box removal activities associated with the well destructions. 3.4 WELL DESTRUCTION ACTIVITIES Stantec will supervise a C-57 licensed well driller in the destruction of forty-eight(48)wells at the Site(Figure 2).The wells will be destroyed in accordance to the California Water Well Standards(Bulletins 74-81 and 74- go)and under the direct oversight and supervision of SJCEHD.The wells will be destroyed by over drilling each well bore to total depth using auger or drill stem with a diameter slightly larger than the original boring. Once the well casing and well boxes are removed the boring will be backfilled with a neat cement grout pumped in through a tremie pipe,from the bottom of the boring to just below grade.The well box, casing, and other debris will be contained and disposed of off-site.After the sealing the boreholes,the surface will be capped with appropriate materials to match existing grade. For wells where overdilling is unachievable due to structures, utilities,etc.that have been constructed after the remediation wells were installed,such that a limited access drill rig cannot safely complete the work,those affected wells will be properly destroyed by pressure grouting methods in accordance to the California Water Well Standards. 3.5 WASTE DISPOSAL Soil cuttings,well materials,and any water generated during destruction activities will temporarily be stored onsite in properly labeled California Department of Transportation(DOT)-approved 55-gallon steel drums pending characterization and disposal. Waste materials will be sampled and waste characterization completed for each receiving facility. The drums will be removed by a certified waste contractor and transported to an approved facility for treatment/disposal. Design with community in mind
