Nolte and Associates, Inc. •MONITORING WELLS
d
616
MONITORING WELLS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 SCOPE
This section specifies all work required to obtain necessary permits, drill bore hole, install
casing and screen, develop, survey of well head, sample, and perform laboratory analysis of
samples for two groundwater monitoring wells. The wells shall be located on the Franzia Winery
wastewater disposal site at the locations shown on Figure 1 at the end of this section. Work to be
performed shall be as follows:
A. Drill and Log Monitoring Well
Monitoring wells shall be drilled to a depth of 20 ft below the standing groundwater level at the
well location (estimated total well depth 70 ft). The well will be logged by a registered geologist
to be provided by the owner. Sieve analyses shall be conducted on selected formation samples as
directed by the geologist.
B. Install Casing and Develop Well
Based on the well logs and sieve analyses, the Engineer will select a screen slot size. The
Contractor shall install screen and casing, seal the well and develop the well. The Contractor
will record well construction details on "as-built" plans, a copy of which will be given to the
Engineer.
C. Pump Testing and Sampling
Water samples shall be collected from each monitoring well and shall be submitted for laboratory
analysis after at least 2 hours of pumping at not less than 2 gpm, or until the water is free of
turbidity, whichever takes longer. Approved sampling equipment shall be used to collect the
samples.
D. Survey of Well Heads
Elevation of the top of the well casings shall be determined by registered surveyor provided by
the Engineer. This elevation shall be the basis of determining the depth to groundwater.
Surveyor will also determine horizontal position of wells.
1.02 PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT
Monitoring well drilling shall be by conventional direct rotary drilling methods unless an
alternate drilling method is approved by the Engineer. Drilling equipment shall be in good
condition and of sufficient capacity to perform the work required by these Specifications. All
drilling equipment; including mast and draw works, air compressors, drilling fluid pumps, drill
pipe, etc. must be of the size, capacity, and condition to drill and set casing to required depths.
Contractor shall furnish documentation regarding capacity of various components of the drilling
equipment. Rigs shall be equipped with a weight indicator.
1
