Pedestrian walkways shall be surfaced with asphalt concrete, <br /> portland cement concrete or timber. The surface shall be skid resistant and free of irregularities. Hand <br /> railings shall be provided on each side of pedestrian walkways as necessary to protect pedestrian traffic <br /> from hazards due to construction operations or adjacent vehicular traffic. Protective overhead covering <br /> shall be provided as necessary to insure protection from falling objects and drip from overhead <br /> structures. <br /> In addition to the required openings through falsework,pedestrian facilities shall be provided during pile <br /> driving, footing, wall, and other bridge construction operations. At least one walkway shall be available <br /> at all times. If the Contractor's operations require the closure of one walkway,then another walkway <br /> shall be provided nearby, off the traveled roadway. <br /> Railings shall be constructed of wood, S4S, and shall be painted white. Railings and walkways shall be <br /> maintained in good condition. Walkways shall be kept clear of obstructions. <br /> Full compensation for providing pedestrian facilities shall be considered as included in the prices paid for <br /> the various contract items of work involved and no additional compensation will be allowed therefor. <br /> Erection of girders over Route 120 shall be undertaken on one span at a time. During girder erection, <br /> public traffic in the lanes over which girders are being placed shall be detoured or stopped as specified in <br /> this section, "Maintaining Traffic." <br /> Erection and removal of falsework at locations where falsework openings are required shall be <br /> undertaken one location at a time. During falsework erection and removal,public traffic in the lanes over <br /> which falsework is being erected or removed shall be detoured or stopped as specified in this section, <br /> "Maintaining Traffic." Falsework erection shall include adjustments or removal of components that <br /> contribute to the horizontal stability of the falsework system. Falsework removal shall include lowering <br /> falsework,blowing sand from sand jacks,turning screws on screw jacks, and removing wedges.. <br /> Detouring traffic during erection girders or removal of bridge and falsework shall be undertaken only <br /> during the hours shown on the charts included in this section "Maintaining Traffic," except designated <br /> TS-25 3/8/05 <br />
