(WFS) facility located in Vernalis,
California (the "Site").
BACKGROUND
The Site is located at 35100 South Highway 33, in Vernalis, California and occupies
approximately 6 acres. On the United States Geological Survey Vernalis Quadrangle map, the
Site lies within Township 3 South, Range 6 East, in Section 34 (Figure 1).
The Site is an agricultural chemical retail facility and operations include storing, blending, and
distributing bulk liquid and dry fertilizers. Smaller pre-packaged containers of fertilizers and
pesticides are also stored and sold.
By letter dated 21 September 2001, Geosyntec Consultants (Geosyntec) received approval from
the RWQCB to implement and monitor a pilot-scale field test for enhanced in-situ remediation of
volatile organic compounds and nitrate detected in groundwater.
The pilot test began in June 2002 by first laying out the Hydrogen Release Compound (HRC®)
injection test plot, then installing one new monitoring well, MW-6, in the center of the test plot
to monitor the groundwater before and after the HRC was injected in the test plot area. Existing
monitoring wells MW-2, MW-4, and MW-5 are also used to monitor the performance of the pilot
test. After MW-6 'was installed and sampled, HRC® was injected into the uppermost
P:\PRJ2003REM\WFS\VER\VER.F\2007 Expanded Pilot Work Plan\Expanded_Pilot Test WP.doc
