HAZARD MITIGATORS — INSECT/VERMIN/SNAKE BITES <br /> Applies to Task: I ( 11 CkO ❑ O ❑ ® ❑ ® ❑ 0 ❑ ® ❑ <br /> • Be able to recognize insects/vermin/snakes indigenous to the site location and <br /> habitats. Learn the indigenous dangerous species (e.g., spiders, snakes, ticks) prior to <br /> entering the field and know the first aid treatments. <br /> • Poisonous venomous snakes swim on top of the water, non-poisonous venomous <br /> snakes swim with only their heads above water. <br /> • Advise the SHSO if you have allergies to any insects prior to engaging in any field <br /> activities. <br /> • Include the; following preventative measures as necessary: wear light-colored <br /> clothing, keep clothing buttoned, tuck pant legs into socks, keep shirt tails tucked in, <br /> boots, hoods, netting, gloves, masks, insect repellants or other personal protection. <br /> • Snake bite kits are commercially available and should be carried by field personnel <br /> when working where poisonous snakes exist. In the case of a snake bite, keep the <br /> patient calm, restrict activity and immobilize the bite area (do not elevate), and <br /> immediately obtain medical attention. <br /> • Report any bites or stings to the SHSO and seek medical attention immediately. <br /> Insect/Vermin/Snake Bites—HazMit.doc Page 1 of 1 8/3/2007 <br />
