1. Galvanic anode cathodic protection of the polyethylene encased ductile
iron water pipeline.
2. Galvanic anode cathodic protection of the polywrapped copper piping of
the combination air release valves.
3. Installation of insulating joints to isolate new piping from existing piping, at
changes of coating type or pipe type, and at beginning and end of new
pipe receiving AC mitigation.
4. High voltage induced. AC mitigation measures at AC transmission line
crossing and paralleling. These measures include the installation of test —
stations, zinc ribbon anode, zinc grounding mats at test stations and at
blow offs.
5. Trenching, drilling, and other excavation.
6. Backfill and compaction of backfill.
7. Provide shop drawings, reports, permits, and obtain Engineer's approval
where required. _
8. Correction of all deficiencies.
9. Cleanup and restoration of surface.
10. The work shall include the provision of all materials, equipment, and
apparatus not specifically mentioned herein or noted on the plans, but --
which are obviously necessary to complete the work specified.
1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. General
All work shall be performed in accordance with the drawings and specifications and to
the satisfaction of the Engineer.
B. Materials
The Contractor shall not substitute for the specified materials unless approved by the --
Engineer.
C. Testing
Proper operation of anodes, test leads and all other cathodic protection components
shall be tested by a State of California Registered Professional Corrosion Engineer,
retained by the Engineer, in order to ensure proper installation and operation. The
Contractor shall be responsible for correction of all installation deficiencies identified by
the testing and all costs incurred for retesting prior to final acceptance.
D. Compaction
Compaction of backfill for anodes and trenches shall match the existing conditions and
shall be approved by the Engineer.
1.04 REQUIREMENTS
A. Galvanic anode cathodic protection using prepackaged zinc anodes shall be
installed on the ductile iron pipelines at the locations indicated on the drawings.
B. Insulating joints and zinc ribbon anodes shall be installed along all pipe sections
in the vicinity of high voltage AC transmission lines.
Division III-133 NEI Phase II Water and Sewer
July 2007 CIP Nos. 7468,7589, 7590
