connections are made between existing ferrous metal piping and new piping, a dielectric <br /> insulator shall be installed. <br /> Insulating flange gasket sets shall be installed at the specified locations in accordance <br /> with Section 13100. <br /> Insulating unions shall be installed at the specified locations. Joint compound or thread <br /> tape shall be applied to male threads only. Piping shall be worked into place without <br /> springing or forcing. Backing off to permit alignment of threaded joints will not be <br /> permitted. Threads shall be engaged so that no more than 3 threads remain exposed. <br /> G. Locating Wire <br /> All runs of non-metallic water pipe shall have a No. 10 gauge solid soft drawn copper <br /> wire laid along the pipe to facilitate locating the pipe at a later date. The wire shall be <br /> stubbed up inside each valve box. Continuity test shall be conducted on each splice at — <br /> all locations. <br /> 3.03 PIPELINE CLEANING AND TESTING <br /> A. General <br /> All piping, both gravity and pressure pipelines, shall be subject to acceptance tests as <br /> specified herein. The Contractor shall provide all necessary utilities, labor, and facilities <br /> for testing, and shall dispose of all waste, including water. All tests shall be conducted in <br /> the presence of the Engineer. <br /> B. Cleaning _ <br /> The interior of all pipelines shall be thoroughly cleaned of all debris prior to testing and <br /> prior to connection of pipe to equipment, control and regulating devices or <br /> instrumentation. Cleaning shall be accomplished by flushing with water at a velocity of <br /> 2.5 ft/s or by pulling a tightly fitting cleaning ball or swab through the pipe. Accumulated <br /> debris shall be removed by dropping spools or valves. No test shall commence until the <br /> pipeline is completely cleaned to the satisfaction of the Engineer. Pump suction lines <br /> shall be cleaned prior to operation of pumps. <br /> Air system piping shall be blown out, using air or the testing medium specified. After <br /> connection to the equipment, it shall then be blown out using the equipment. Upon <br /> completion of cleaning, the piping shall be drained and dried with an air stream. <br /> C. Testing — General <br /> The Contractor shall notify the City at least 48 hours in advance of scheduled pipeline <br /> testing. All bulkheads, thrust blocks, anchors, pumps, etc., shall be in place prior to <br /> issuance of the notice to the City. <br /> If leakage occurs in any section of pipe, the Contractor shall promptly locate and repair <br /> all leaks and retest the line until the leakage has been eliminated.
