F. Disinfection <br /> The Contractor shall disinfect the newly installed potable water pipelines by the use of _ <br /> calcium hypochlorite tablets in accordance with AWWA C651. <br /> The pipe shall be slowly filled to allow proper circulation of the tablets and the solution <br /> shall be allowed to stand for a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours. The pipeline shall be <br /> flushed as directed by the Engineer. Samples shall be taken from service outlets or, if <br /> none available, from sample test stations to be provided by the Contractor. <br /> Following chlorination, all treated water shall be thoroughly flushed from the mains until <br /> the replacement water shall, upon both chemical and biological tests, be proved equal to <br /> the water quality at the point of supply. Following disinfecting and flushing, the City will -- <br /> take water samples for bacteriological and visual analysis of the water. If the specified <br /> bacteriological or visual requirements are not met, the flushing and disinfecting <br /> procedure must be repeated until the requirements are met. <br /> All bacteriological tests shall be by the City in its own laboratory as specified in <br /> "Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Waste Water". The new facilities _ <br /> shall remain isolated and out of service until satisfactory test results have been obtained <br /> which meet the requirement of the California Department of Health Services, and new <br /> water distribution main line rejection criteria (see Attachment A). After all testing is <br /> complete, and upon approval of the Engineer, the Contractor may connect his facilities <br /> to the City's mains. Disposal of chlorinated water is not allowed. Dechlorinate all water <br /> prior to disposal as directed by the Engineer. <br /> SECTION 15200 —VALVES AND APPURTENANCES <br /> PART 1 — GENERAL <br /> 1.01 DESCRIPTION <br /> This section specifies miscellaneous valves and accessories for water, chemical and sewer <br /> service. Valves shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. <br /> Valves shall be suitable for working pressures up to 150 psi. All valves shall be complete with all — <br /> necessary operating hand wheels, extension stems, valve boxes, floor stands, worm and gear <br /> operators, operating nuts, hardware and fasteners, and wrenches which are required for the <br /> proper completion of the work included under this section. _ <br /> 1.02 SUBMITTALS _ <br /> Submittals shall demonstrate full compliance with all aspects of this specification, and be <br /> submitted in accordance with Section 01300. <br /> 1.03 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT <br /> No measurement will be made except for butterfly valves and 2-inch combination air <br /> release/vacuum valves.
