When direct tension indicators are used, installation verification tests shall be performed in conformance with Appendix <br /> Section X1.4 of ASTM Designation: F959, except that bolts shall be initially tensioned to a value 5 percent greater than the <br /> minimum required bolt tension. <br /> SURFACE PREPARATION <br /> For all bolted connections, the new contact surfaces shall be cleaned and coated before assembly in conformance with <br /> the provisions for cleaning and painting structural steel of these special provisions. <br /> WELDING <br /> Dimensional details and workmanship for welded joints in tubular and pipe connections shall conform to the provisions <br /> in Part A, "Common Requirements of Nontubular and Tubular Connections,"and Part D, "Specific Requirements for Tubular <br /> Connections,"in Section 2 of AWS D1.1. <br /> The requirement of conformance with AWS D1.5 shall not apply to work conforming to Section 86-2.04, "Standards, <br /> Steel Pedestals and Posts,"of the Standard Specifications. <br /> PAYMENT <br /> Full compensation for conforming to the requirements of this section shall be considered as included in the contract <br /> prices paid for the various items of work involved and no additional compensation will be allowed therefor. <br /> 10-1.18 ROADSIDE SIGNS <br /> Roadside signs shall be furnished and installed at the locations shown on the plans or where designated by the Engineer <br /> and in conformance with the provisions in Section 56-2, 'Roadside Signs," of the Standard Specifications and these special <br /> provisions. <br /> The Contractor shall furnish roadside sign panels in conformance with the provisions in "Furnish Sign" of these special <br /> provisions. <br /> Wood posts shall be pressure treated after fabrication in conformance with the provisions in Section 58, 'Preservative <br /> Treatment of Lumber, Timber and Piling," of the Standard Specifications and AWPA Use Category System: UC4A, <br /> Commodity Specification A or B. <br /> 10-1.19 INSTALL ROADSIDE SIGN PANEL ON EXISTING POST <br /> Roadside sign panels shall be installed on existing posts at the locations shown on the plans or where designated by the <br /> Engineer and in conformance with the provisions in Section 56-2.04, "Sign Panel Installation,"of the Standard Specifications <br /> and these special provisions. <br /> The Contractor shall furnish roadside sign panels in conformance with the provisions in "Furnish Sign" of these special <br /> provisions. <br /> Cutting the ends of wood posts in the field and field application of wood preservatives shall conform to the provisions in <br /> Section 56-2.02B, "Wood Posts,"of the Standard Specifications. <br /> Two holes shall be drilled in each existing post as required to provide a breakaway feature as shown on the plans. <br /> Existing sign panels, as shown on the plans, shall be removed and disposed of as provided in Section 15, 'Existing <br /> Highway Facilities,"of the Standard Specifications. <br /> Installing roadside sign panels on existing posts will be paid for by the unit as determined from actual count in place. <br /> The contract unit price paid for install roadside sign panel on existing post shall include full compensation for furnishing <br /> all labor, materials (except sign panels), tools, equipment, and incidentals, and for doing all the work involved in installing <br /> roadside sign panels on existing posts (including drilling holes in existing posts, removing, and disposing of existing sign <br /> panels), complete in place, as shown on the plans, as specified in the Standard Specifications and these special provisions, <br /> and as directed by the Engineer. <br /> 10-1.20 FURNISH SIGN <br /> Signs shall be fabricated and furnished in accordance with details shown on the plans, the Traffic Sign Specifications, <br /> and these special provisions. <br /> Traffic Sign Specifications for California sign codes are available for review at: <br /> http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/traffops/signtech/signdel/specs.htm <br /> Traffic Sign Specifications for signs referenced with Federal MUTCD sign codes can be found in Standard Highway <br /> Signs Book,administered by the Federal Highway Administration,which is available for review at: <br /> http://mutcd.thwa.dot.gov/ser-shs—millennium.htm <br /> Contract No. 10-OM7104 <br /> 173 <br />
