A. For cleaning and painting structural steel in the field, certification in conformance with the requirements in <br /> Qualification Procedure No. 1, "Standard Procedure For Evaluating Painting Contractors (Field Application to <br /> Complex Industrial Structures)"(SSPC-QP 1). <br /> B. For removing paint from structural steel, certification in conformance with the requirements in Qualification <br /> Procedure No.2, "Standard Procedure For Evaluating Painting Contractors (Field Removal of Hazardous Coatings <br /> from Complex Structures)"(SSPC-QP 2). <br /> C. For cleaning and painting structural steel in a permanent painting facility, certification in conformance with the <br /> requirements in Qualification Procedure No.3, "Standard Procedure For Evaluating Qualifications of Shop Painting <br /> Applicators" (SSPC-QP 3). The AISC's Sophisticated Paint Endorsement(SPE)quality program will be considered <br /> equivalent to SSPC-QP 3. <br /> The third paragraph of Section 59-2.03,"Blast Cleaning,"of the Standard Specifications is amended to read: <br /> • Exposed steel or other metal surfaces to be blast cleaned shall be cleaned in conformance with the requirements in <br /> Surface Preparation Specification No.6, "Commercial Blast Cleaning," of the "SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings." <br /> Blast cleaning shall leave all surfaces with a dense, uniform, angular anchor pattern of not less than 35 µm as measured in <br /> conformance with the requirements in ASTM Designation: D 4417. <br /> The first paragraph of Section 59-2.06,"Hand Cleaning,"of the Standard Specifications is amended to read: <br /> • Dirt, loose rust and mill scale,or paint which is not firmly bonded to the surfaces shall be removed in conformance <br /> with the requirements in Surface Preparation Specification No. 2, "Hand Tool Cleaning," of the "SSPC: The Society for <br /> Protective Coatings." Edges of old remaining paint shall be feathered. <br /> The third and fourth paragraphs of Section 59-2.12, "Painting,"of the Standard Specifications are amended to read: <br /> • Contact surfaces of stiffeners, railings,built up members or open seam exceeding 6 mils in width that would retain <br /> moisture, shall be caulked with polysulfide or polyurethane sealing compound conforming to the requirements in ASTM <br /> Designation: C 920,Type S,Grade NS,Class 25,Use O,or other approved material. <br /> • The dry film thickness of the paint will be measured in place with a calibrated Type 2 magnetic film thickness gage <br /> in conformance with the requirements in SSPC-PA 2, "Measurement of Dry Coating Thickness with Magnetic Gages,"of the <br /> "SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings," except that there shall be no limit to the number or location of spot <br /> measurements to verify compliance with specified thickness requirements. <br /> SECTION 64:PLASTIC PIPE <br /> Issue Date: January 5,2007 <br /> The first paragraph of Section 64-1.06, "Concrete Backfill,"of the Standard Specifications is amended to read: <br /> • At locations where pipe is to be backfilled with concrete as shown on the plans, the concrete backfill shall be <br /> constructed of minor concrete or Class 4 concrete conforming to the provisions in Section 90, "Portland Cement Concrete." <br /> Minor concrete shall contain not less than 250 kg of cementitious material per cubic meter. The concrete to be used will be <br /> designated in the contract item or shown on the plans. <br /> SECTION 65:REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE <br /> Issue Date: January 5,2007 <br /> The first paragraph of Section 6.5-1.02,"Materials,"of the Standard Specifications is amended to read: <br /> Cementitious material and aggregate shall conform to the provisions in Section 90-2, "Materials," except that mortar <br /> strengths relative to Ottawa sand and grading requirements shall not apply to the aggregate. Use of supplemental <br /> cementitious material shall conform to AASHTO Designation: M 170M. <br /> Subparagraph "c" of the eleventh paragraph of Section 65-1.02A(1) "Circular Reinforced Concrete Pipe (Designated or <br /> Selected by Class),"of the Standard Specifications is amended to read: <br /> Contract No. 10-OM7104 <br /> 49 <br />
