• Plastic markers shall conform to the testing requirements specified in Section 85-1.04A, "Non-Reflective Pavement <br /> Markers(Ceramic)," except that Tests a,b,c,and h shall not apply. The plastic markers shall not be coated with substances <br /> that interfere with the ability of the adhesive bonding to the marker. <br /> The sixth and seventh paragraphs in Section 85-1.05, "Retroreflective Pavement Markers," of the Standard <br /> Specifications are amended to read: <br /> Testing <br /> • Tests shall be performed in conformance with the requirements in California Test 669. <br /> Test Description Requirement <br /> Bond strengtha 3.4 MPa,min. <br /> Compressive strengthb 8900 N,min. <br /> Abrasion resistance,marker must meet the Pass <br /> respective specific intensity minimum <br /> requirements after abrasion. <br /> Water Soak Resistance No delamination of the body <br /> or lens system of the marker <br /> nor loss of reflectance <br /> Specific Intensity <br /> Reflectance Clear Yellow Red <br /> 0°Incidence Angle,min. 3.0 1.5 0.75 <br /> 20°Incidence Angle,min. 1.2 0.60 0.30 <br /> After one year field evaluation 0.30 0.15 0.08 <br /> a. Failure of the marker body or filler material prior to reaching 3.4 MPa <br /> shall constitute a failing bond strength test. <br /> b. Deformation of the marker of more than 3 mm at a load of less than <br /> 8900 N or delamination of the shell and the filler material of more <br /> than 3 mm regardless of the load required to break the marker shall be <br /> cause for rejection of the markers as specified in Section 85-1.03, <br /> "Sampling,Tolerances and Packaging." <br /> • Pavement markers to be placed in pavement recesses shall conform to the above requirements for retroreflective <br /> pavement markers except that the minimum compressive strength requirement shall be 5338 N. <br /> The eighth paragraph of Section 85-1.05,"Retroreflective Pavement Markers"of the Standard Specifications is deleted. <br /> The eighth paragraph in Section 85-1.06,'Replacement,"of the Standard Specifications is amended to read: <br /> • Epoxy adhesive shall not be used to apply non-reflective plastic pavement markers. <br /> The seventh sentence of the fourteenth paragraph of Section 85-1.06, "Placement," of the Standard Specifications is <br /> amended to read: <br /> • Soft rags moistened with mineral spirits conforming to Army Mil-PRF-680A(l) or kerosene may be used, if <br /> necessary,to remove adhesive from exposed faces of pavement markers. <br /> SECTION 86: SIGNALS,LIGHTING AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS <br /> Issue Date: January 5,2007 <br /> The second paragraph of Section 86-1.01,"Description,"of the Standard Specifications is amended to read: <br /> • The locations of signals,beacons, standards,lighting fixtures, signs,controls, services and appurtenances shown on <br /> the plans are approximate and the exact locations will be approved by the Engineer in the field. <br /> Contract No. 10-OM7104 <br /> 62 <br />
