Section 15068 <br /> DUCTILE IRON PIPE <br /> 4. Insulating Flange Set: Insulating flange joints shall have 1/6-inch thick plastic, full <br /> length bolt sleeves, with 1/8-inch thick insulating washers and flat washer for each <br /> flange bolt. <br /> B. Push-On And Mechanical Joints <br /> 1. General: The plain ends of push-on pipe and mechanical joint pipe shall be marked <br /> with paint to show the required depth of penetration for making the joint. <br /> 2. Push-On and Mechanical Joint Gaskets: Gasket stock shall be a synthetic rubber <br /> compound in which the elastomer is styrene butadiene rubber (SBR). Gaskets shall, <br /> in addition, comply with AWWA Cl 11. <br /> C. Mechanically Restrained Joints <br /> Specially modified push-on or mechanical joints shall be provided on all ductile iron pipe <br /> where specified in Section 15060(PIPESPEC) or noted on the plans or where unbalanced <br /> forces require thrust restraint. Restrained joints shall be rated for a water working pressure <br /> of not less than 175 psi with a minimum 2:1 safety factor. Mechanically restrained joints <br /> shall be designed to allow separation of the joint after installation. Intemal restraints are not <br /> acceptable. <br /> 1. Restrained Push-On Joints: Restrained push-on joints shall conform to AWWA <br /> C111. Restrained push-on joints shall be capable of deflection, after assembly, in a <br /> loaded condition. <br /> Joint restraints shall be constructed of ductile iron and shall be U.S. Pipe TR FLEX, <br /> American (LOK-Ring, Flexring), or equal. <br /> 2. Restrained Mechanical Joints: Restrained mechanical joints shall utilize pipe and <br /> fittings having mechanical joint bells conforming to ANSI/AWWA C110/A21.10. <br /> Restraint shall be provided by either a welded-on retainer ring or lugs which impart <br /> multiple wedging action against the pipe. Restrained mechanical joints shall be <br /> Pacific States Mechanical Lock Joint, EBAA Iron Series 1100 Megalug, or approved <br /> equal. Mechanical joint with set screws shall not be used. <br /> 3.
