a-coM <br />4.6.1 <br />Highway 8 Road Work (53AM-306-PRI) <br />Applicable legislated requirements governing all aspects of traffic safety, including directing traffic, <br />signage, PPE, traffic control devices in temporary construction, maintenance and utility work zones, <br />shall be reviewed in preparation for the site-specific traffic control, protection or accommodation <br />plan. <br />4.6.2 <br />No personnel shall be allowed onto the site without first reviewing the project -specific Traffic <br />Control Plan or Traffic Protection Plan. <br />4.6.3 <br />No Roadwork/Highway work shall be performed without appropriately addressing the traffic <br />hazards present at the site in a Traffic Control Plan or Traffic Protection Plan. <br />4.7 Short -Term Traffic Protection <br />4.7.1 <br />Always wear the appropriate PPE to maintain worker visibility to vehicular traffic. Wear a tear -away <br />fluorescent reflective vest (and retro -reflective stripes on the arms and legs for night work or during <br />periods of limited visibility) at all times. Refer to S3AM-208-PR1 Personal Protective Equipment, <br />4.7.2 <br />Set out signage to signify workers are performing work on the side of the road. <br />4.7.3 <br />Pull vehicles off as far to the right of the travelled portion of the road as possible. Confirm the <br />ground is stable where the vehicle is parked; note that parking at the top of earthen ditches should <br />be avoided. Confirm that the shoulder of the highway or street where parking the vehicle is wide <br />enough to allow for safe access to and egress from the vehicle. <br />4.7.4 <br />Always park a vehicle at least 100 feet (30 meters) from the flag person station. The vehicle should <br />be positioned between the flag person and the work crew. Position vehicles to protect workers from <br />traffic. See information related to Attenuator Vehicles in this procedure. <br />4.7.5 <br />Activate the four-way flashers and rotating beacon for the vehicle prior to exiting the vehicle. <br />4.7.6 <br />Plan an escape route prior to exiting the vehicle. <br />4.7.7 <br />Load and unload materials or equipment from the passenger side of the vehicle. <br />4.7.8 <br />Always use the buddy system in heavy traffic areas. Employees shall avoid turning their back to <br />oncoming traffic. <br />4.7.9 <br />Be aware of mobile equipment that may be operating in the work area. <br />4.7.10 <br />Do not enter onto the travelled portion of the road except to cross the road. Road crossings should <br />be made at a 90 degree angle to the direction of the road. <br />4.8 Long -Term <br />Traffic Protection <br />4.8.1 <br />Traffic accommodation shall be provided BEFORE the work starts and shall be maintained until the <br />work is completed. <br />4.8.2 <br />Generally, for long-term duration work activities that are performed at construction projects, the <br />constructor of the project is required to develop a Traffic Protection Plan. <br />4.8.3 <br />If AECOM has assumed the role of constructor for the project, the Traffic Protection Plan shall be <br />developed and implemented prior to the commencement of work activities at the project. <br />4.8.4 <br />If AECOM is not the constructor for the project, the Traffic Protection Plan for the project shall be <br />developed by our client or a constructor designated by the client. <br />4.8.5 <br />The Traffic Protection Plan should be reviewed with AECOM employees during orientation to the <br />project. <br />4.9 Signage <br />4.9.1 <br />Standard highway signs for information, speed limits, and work zones shall assist drivers in <br />identifying designated traffic paths or conditions ahead. <br />4.9.2 <br />Provide appropriate instructional signage such as: EVACUATION ROUTE; DO NOT ENTER; <br />REDUCED SPEED AHEAD; ROAD CLOSED; WORKERS AHEAD; and NO OUTLET. <br />Revision 3 December 15, 2016 <br />PRINTED COPIES ARE UNCONTROLLED.
