A=COM <br />Americas <br />Highway & Road Work S3AM-306-PR1 <br />1.0 Purpose and Scope <br />1.1 To address potential hazards that may occur during highway construction or during work within the right of <br />way of a public or private roadway. <br />1.2 This procedure applies to all AECOM Americas -based employees and operations. <br />2.0 Terms and Definitions <br />2.1 Competent Persons — are those who are knowledgeable about the fundamental principles of temporary <br />traffic control and the work activities to be performed, and who have the authority to propose and implement <br />corrective measures to eliminate hazardous situations associated with temporary traffic control. <br />2.2 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) —Safety clothing and equipment worn by workers in traffic areas to <br />provide protection and heightened visibility from physical hazards including moving vehicles and <br />construction equipment. <br />2.3 Traffic areas — Any work area where workers are located within 20 feet (6.1 metres) of moving traffic, <br />existing or anticipated. <br />2.4 Traffic Protection Plan — A detailed plan for the protection of workers in a work zone. The plan shall <br />contain a written description of the traffic hazards to which workers may be exposed and measures used to <br />protect them meeting local legislation. A Traffic Control Plan shall be included as applicable. <br />2.5 Traffic Control Plan — A detailed plan for the control of traffic during construction, maintenance, or utility <br />operations on a highway/road, taking into account the organized, systematic, safe conduct of the project, <br />including, as applicable, detours, staging sequences, work vehicle access and egress from work sites, <br />temporary barriers, removal of old pavement markings and selection and planned implementation of <br />appropriate typical layouts for traffic control.
