Printed on:Wednesday 08/14/2024 10:01 AM 29C0187/AAAV/135041Pageof3
Department of Transportation - Division of Maintenance Structure Maintenance & Investigations
11
UNDERWATER INVESTIGATION DETAILS
STEEL INVESTIGATION DETAILS
SCOPE AND ACCESS
All elements were accessible by foot on and around the structure. There was up to 8 feet of flowing water in the river during this
investigation. Piers 2 and 3 were submerged and Pier 4 was at the water line. Spans 2 and 3 were inspected with the aid of binoculars
from near Piers 2 and 4. A complete routine inspection was performed on all of the visible elements by walking on and about the
structure.
Due to the substantial depth at Piers 2, 3 and 4, their condition below the water level can be established only through a diving inspection.
An underwater inspection was performed on 08/05/2019 by the Underwater Investigations Team. All identified defects from that
inspection have been incorporated into the condition states of the respective elements and have been described in the element or defect
notes. Refer to the 08/05/2019 underwater inspection report for further detail.
MISCELLANEOUS
A new routine map view photo was added during this investigation. See Photo 1.
SUBSTRUCTURE
There are logs and debris lodge against the upstream side (right) of Piers 2 and 3. See Photo 2.
There are trees growing below the structure in Span 4 near Pier 4 and below the cap at Pier 5 on the left. See Photos 3 and 4.
SAFE LOAD CAPACITY
The load rating for this structure is being reviewed by SMI Ratings Branch under work request number 11691. An updated Load Rating
Summary will be archived when this review is complete. The current rating is based on BDS computer output dated 11/29/1979. While
this report does not include a check of that analysis, it does verify that the structural conditions assumed in that rating have not changed
significantly.
INSPECTION COMMENTARY
1 - FreshWater TypeB - Routine UWDive Type
Next UWI 08/05/2024UWI Frequency months 60UWI Required Y Last UWI 08/05/2019
- NOT APPLICABLE FOR THIS BRIDGE.
CONDITION INFORMATION
SPECIAL INSPECTION INFORMATION
