A defect is not warranted at this time. See Photo 12 dated 06/27/2018.
There is soot staining on the bottom of the box in Span 1. See Photo 13 dated 06/27/2018. This area was hammer sounded and
appears sound at this time and so no defect is warranted.
There is a patch up to 7 feet wide x 14 inches long in the soffit of the box on the right side of Span 5 near Pier 5. The patch appears
sound. See Photo 8.
There are two gouge marks up to 14 inches long x 3 inches wide x 1 inch deep in the soffit on the left side of Span 5 near Abutment
6. See Photo 9.
There are transverse cracks up to 0.08 inches wide and spaced as close as 4 inches on center with light efflorescence in the soffit of
the box in Spans 1, 4 and 5. These cracks generally become diagonal and vertical on the exterior faces of the box girder and reduce
in size as they propagate upward toward the overhang. (See Photo 10 and archived Photo 8 dated 06/27/2018). This condition has
been previously reported and no significant changes were noted.
There are similar cracks in the other spans as observed with binoculars from the banks but appear to occur less frequently. This
condition was first noted in an inspection report dated 02/15/2000 when an under bridge inspection truck was used for close up
inspection.
The steel rocker bearings at each abutment were out of plumb less than 10 degrees towards the backwall on the date of this
inspection which was approximately 80°F ambient temperature. (See Photo 2 dated 06/09/2022). This condition
has been previously reported and no significant changes were noted.
There were no significant defects noted.
