The abutments were dry and
the soffit and superstructure were observed from the canal banks. A complete routine inspection was performed on all of the visible
elements by walking on and about the structure.
Due to the substantial depth at Pier 2, the condition of the pier below the water level can be established only through a diving inspection.
An underwater inspection was performed on 02/13/2018 by the Underwater Investigations Team. All identified defects from that
inspection have been incorporated into the condition states of the respective elements and have been described in the element or defect
notes. Refer to the 02/13/2018 underwater inspection report for further detail.
MISCELLANEOUS
A new routine map view photo was added during this investigation. See Photo 1.
DECK AND ROADWAY
The approach AC is deteriorating, settling and has cracking up to 2 inches wide and spaced as close as 6 inches on center that are
developing into potholes that are up to 12 inches in diameter. (See Photos 5 and 6 dated 06/08/2022). This condition has been previously
reported and no significant changes were noted.
There are multiple spalls up to 6 inches in diameter x 4 inches deep on the exterior and interior faces of the RC bridge rail curb. See
Photo 2.
SUPERSTRUCTURE
There is a pipe hanger with a missing bolt in Span 1 near Pier 2. (See Photo 6 dated 06/14/2016). This condition has been previously
reported and no significant changes were noted.
SUBSTRUCTURE
There is an erosion gulley forming behind the right Abutment 1 wingwall.
