Printed on:Wednesday 04/30/2025 02:28 PM 29C0051/AAAQ/151728Pageof3
Department of Transportation - Division of Maintenance Structure Maintenance & Investigations
7
UNDERWATER INVESTIGATION DETAILS - NOT APPLICABLE FOR THIS BRIDGE.
STEEL INVESTIGATION DETAILS
SCOPE AND ACCESS
All elements were accessible by foot on and around the structure. There was 3 feet of slow flowing water in the slough below Spans 3
through 5 during this investigation. Piers 4 was submerged near the waterline and inspected through clear water with the aid of waders
and probing. All visible elements were fully inspected. A complete routine inspection was performed.
SUBSTRUCTURE
Non-engineered RSP was placed on the slope between Piers 2 and 3 before the 2023 routine inspection. (See Photos 2 and 3 dated
02/09/2023). According to the Bridge Scour Plan of Action dated 07/17/2021 the placement of non-engineering RSP is a temporary scour
countermeasure to mitigate the scour below Spans 1 to 3. This condition has been previously reported and no significant changes were
noted.
There is a support bracket attached between Columns 4 and 5 at Pier 5. In addition, there is a full width horizontal crack in Column 5
below the placement of the bracket. It appears the crack has been previously patched. See Photos 3 and 4.
There are two erosion gullies up to 3 feet wide x 12 inches deep x full embankment height below Spans 8 an 9 on the right. This
condition appears to be caused by roadway run-off. See Photo 5 dated 02/09/2023.
WATERWAY
The NBI Item #113 is a 3, "Scour Critical." A Bridge Scour Evaluation - Plan of Action dated 07/17/2021 is on file in BIRIS. The plan calls
for monitoring of the structure by San Joaquin County annually and during high flows.
The channel cross section was checked during this inspection and there was no significant change in the elevations when compared to
the channel cross section taken on 02/09/2023.
INSPECTION COMMENTARY
- NOT APPLICABLE FOR THIS BRIDGE.
CONDITION INFORMATION
SPECIAL INSPECTION INFORMATION
