The gearbox oil should be drained
and replaced. Check the manufacturer's recommendations for gear oil type and replacement interval.
The ring gear teeth are dry and show signs of corrosion.
There is no indication when the hydraulic fluid was last replaced and the filters changed on the end jack hydraulic systems. Drain and
replace the hydraulic fluid and filters and write the replacement date on the pump reservoirs.
(5/8/23) Conditions still present.
The electrical drive system consists of a main drive motor located with an eddy current clutch, center wedge motors, and hydraulic
motors to operate the bridge jacks. There are also machinery brakes that help stop the movement of the span.
The mechanical bridge control systems consist of the main drive motor encoder various lever actuated limit / indicating switches, and
the hydraulic fluid control valves.
Bridge control systems are located in in the bridge house on the north side of Span 22. The control system consists an on-operator
desk that controls both traffic equipment and span operation.
See drive system element information
The interlocking system consists of limit switches that regulate the sequence of the traffic equipment and movable span operation.
The pier protection consists of timber fenders with skip sheathing on each side of Span 22. The fenders appear in good condition
and there was no drift accumulating at the fenders or the piers.
Navigation lights required by Coast Guard regulation are mounted at each end of the swing span and on the upstream and
downstream ends of the fender system under Span 21.
Mech/Elect (06/01/2021) Multiple navigation lights are burned out and need replacement.
(5/8/23) Condition still present.
Utility power is delivered to the east side of the bridge. Power to the swing pier is provided by means of a submarine cable. Backup
