All soil samples will be field-
screened with a photo ionization device. All fieldwork will be conducted in accordance with the
Apex Standard Operating Procedures included in Appendix B.
Prior to drilling, permits will be obtained from SJCEHD. At least 48 hours prior to drilling,
Underground Service Alert will be contacted to identify buried utilities at or entering the project
site from the public right-of-way. To further avoid striking underground utilities, the first 5 feet
of each boring will be hand-augured.
Upon completion of boring and sampling activities, the borings will be grouted to the surface per
SJCEHD guidelines.
Soil Sample Collection
Soil from all soil borings(B-1 through B-5)will be collected continuously beginning at 5 feet
bgs for logging purposes, and a minimum of three soil samples will be submitted from borings
B-1 through B-4 for chemical analysis. No soil samples will be submitted for chemical analysis
from soil boring B-5. Soil samples collected will be screened in the field for the presence of
petroleum hydrocarbon vapor using a photo ionization detector(PID). Based on soil lithology,
visual observation, and PID readings, additional soil samples may be submitted for chemical
analysis. Fieldwork will be conducted in accordance with the Apex Standard Operating
Procedures included in Appendix B.
Groundwater Sampling
After the soil boring advancement is completed, one discrete groundwater sample will be
collected from direct push soil borings B-2 and B-5. The fresh formation water entering the
boring will be sampled directly from the direct push boring so no purging will be required.
Upon completion of groundwater sampling activities, the borehole will be grouted to the surface
with Portland cement.
Analytical procedures
The soil and groundwater samples will be transported under chain-of-custody(COC)
documentation to a state-certified analytical laboratory for analysis of-
Analysis
f:Anal sis Abbreviation Des l nation USEPA Method No.
Total Petroleum TPH Petroleum
Hydrocarbons as Gasoline g Hydrocarbons
Benzene
Toluene Aromatic Volatile 826DB
Eth benzene BTEX Organics
Xylenes Total
Historical soil analytical results are summarized in Table 1.
