UNIVAR USA INC. univAR <br />CONTINGENCY PLAN <br />06/14/11 Replaces 03/10/10 <br />SECTION <br /> <br />SUBJECT PAGE 5 <br />SIX <br /> <br />EMERGENCY PROCEDURES OF 22 <br />Potential for further explosions and flying debris which could start a fire <br />and spread the fire off-site or to unaffected areas on-site, and seriously <br />threaten human health and safety. <br />Sprinkler effectiveness and results if facility is equipped with sprinklers. <br />The release of other hazardous materials from nearby containers. <br />If safe to do so, the Emergency Coordinator will take the necessary measures to <br />attempt to contain and control the explosion/fire. These measures include: <br />Control ignition sources. <br />Determine the chemical and physical properties of the container that <br />exploded. <br />Identify other chemicals, including the container size, within the vicinity <br />of the fire. <br />Determine if any other containers are in jeopardy of exploding. <br />Remove other as yet unaffected hazardous materials or equipment <br />from the area. <br />Shut down operations, and protect those areas and items that cannot <br />be moved to safety and that could become dangerous if a fire ignites <br />there. <br />Assess the ability of Fire Control Teams to safely contain and isolate <br />the burning material, considering the properties of the material on fire, the <br />fire-fighting equipment available, and the intensity of the blaze. <br />Assess the ability of Fire Control Teams to safely put out the fire, <br />considering the properties of the material on fire, the fire-fighting <br />equipment available, and the intensity of the blaze. <br />6. If facility evacuation occurs, the Emergency Coordinator should ensure that <br />reference tools such as the Contingency Plan, Corporate Directory and <br />visitor/contractor logs are removed for off-site use. <br />7 The Emergency Coordinator must provide control of facility gates to prevent <br />unauthorized access by spectators, etc.
