technicians that will operate the equipment will be trained in an EPA -accredited course <br />designed to teach and test the principles of environmentally safe removal of refrigerants <br />from appliances. <br />Chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs and CFCs) <br />Hydro chlorofluorocarbons and other non -CFC replacement refrigerants in=jected in air <br />conditioning/refrigeration units will be removed as listed above in "Refrigerant' section. <br />These materials are managed as hazardous wastes at and removed from the ECS Refining <br />site by the contractor used to perform the evacuation. <br />Used oil is removed and managed in accordance with Section 25250.1-25250.28 of the <br />California Health and Safety Code. <br />Capacitors removed from microwave ovens or refrigerators will be examined to <br />determine if they contain PCBs. Those that do contain PCBs will be separately <br />containerized for shipment to an approved disposal facility. Capacitors that are <br />determined not to contain PCBs will either be shipped off-site to an approved recycler, or <br />will have the oil removed by drilling a hole in the capacitor and allowing the oil to drain <br />out into a collection drum. The used oil will be managed as ahazardous waste and <br />removed off-site for recycling. <br />Mercury is found in the switches and temperature control devices in appliances. ECS <br />Refuting or its contractor plans to remove the switches and temperature controls from the <br />appliances.
