If outdoors, stay in the open, away from any trees, structures, power lines,
explosion hazards, etc.
d. If indoors, try to get under a desk, table, bench, or in a doorway. Do not try to
move long distances during a quake (as you may lose your footing), unli, VJ®
absolutely necessary.
4. Follow the procedure for a Fire or Explosion, if one occurs.
5. Follow the procedure for a Chemical Release, if one occurs. MAY 18 2015
6. Be prepared to shut off the water and gas mains (depending upon the sev(9-WRONMENTAL
of the earthquake). A.TH nFoaaTenF:NT
7. Be aware that electrical, gas and water lines and mains may be down, broken, and out
of order, all of which may constitute hazards.
a. Shut-off electrically powered equipment if there is a loss of electrical utility, as a
result of an earthquake.
8. Do not resume any activities unless the Emergency Coordinator directs you to do so,
or otherwise gives an all clear signal. The Emergency Coordinator will direct all
post -earthquake response activities, until the all clear signal is given.
9. Immediately after the earthquake has ceased, or as soon thereafter as possible, the
Emergency Coordinator will direct a post -earthquake inspection, to detect spills,
leaks, and other hazardous conditions. Only personnel who have been trained in
chemical safety and spill response procedures may perform the post -earthquake
inspections. No one will enter an area suspected of having a gas release or
structural damage.
10. Any chemical spills or leaks discovered during the post -earthquake inspection
must be immediately reported to the Emergency Coordinator who will determine if
the spill can be safely contained and collected with available in-house resources,
or if an outside spill response contractor must be notified.
11. In the event that the post -earthquake inspection reveals signs of a chemical release
which is, or may be, imminently hazardous to human health, the Emergency
Coordinator must terminate the inspection, ensure that the facility has been
evacuated, and contact the City of Stockton Fire Department (Call 911).
a. Do not initiate post -earthquake inspections until local experts have determined that
additional after -shocks are not likely. Buildings and equipment may have become
sufficiently destabilized to collapse during a subsequent shock -event.
b. In the event of wide -spread earthquake damage to the surrounding community, ECS
may not be assisted by local emergency response services for hours or days. If this
occurs, ECS will be responsible for curtailing its activities and temporarily making its
facility as safe as possible.
12. Facility personnel will follow the procedures specified below when conducting a
post -earthquake inspection:
