Capacitors removed from microwave ovens or refrigerators will be examined to be sure <br /> that they do not contain PCBs. They will then have the oil removed by drilling a hole in <br /> the capacitor and allowing the oil to drain out into a collection drum. The used oil will be <br /> managed as a hazardous waste and removed off-site for recycling. <br /> Mercury Found in the switches and temperature control devices in appliances. ECS <br /> Refining or its contractor plans to remove the switches and temperature controls from the <br /> appliances. They will be removed by the refrigerant removal contractor and taken off-site <br /> for recycling. <br /> Contractor for Removals <br /> ECS Refining will use the following company for removal of refrigerants and other items <br /> as needed: <br /> Freon Free <br /> P.O. Box 5607 <br /> Vacaville, CA 95696 <br /> (707) 429-9013 <br /> Training <br /> ECS Refining personnel responsible for coordinating the removal of the MRSH from the <br /> appliances receive general health and safety training, hazardous waste generator training, <br /> and universal waste training on an initial and annual basis. ECS Refining personnel do <br /> not perform the removal of the MRSH. <br /> Health and Safety <br /> The site maintains plans and procedures for required health and safety programs. <br /> Relevant to removal of MRSH are the hazard communication program, forklift safety (for <br /> moving materials). <br /> Storage and Disposition of Waste <br /> Any used oil removed from capacitors is accumulated and managed as hazardous waste <br /> and is shipped off-site for recycling within ninety days of the generation date. While on- <br /> site, the used oil is stored in drums on containment pallets. Any universal wastes are <br /> recycled within one year of generation and stored in structurally sound containers. The <br /> Freon is taken off-site by the contractor the day it is generated. <br /> 2 <br />
