Box 2009
Stockton, CA. 95201
Subject: Proposed Revised Remedial Activity Implementation Schedule at Former Chevron Station
#9-5775,301 West Kettleman Lane, Lodi, CA.
Mr. Knoll:
In a letter dated March 31, 2000, to the San Joaquin County Public Health Services-rnvironrslcntal
Health Division, Gettler-Ryan Inc. (GR) proposed a schedule for implementation of remedial actions
at the subject site. The Ietter was written in response to your letter of March 29, 2000, to Chevron
directing that an interim remedial pump and treat system be installed and operating continuously by
April 24, 2000. This letter discusses the interim remedial measures that GR has already implemented,
and the reasons we feel it will not be possible to meet the April 24, 2000, deadline_
• The subject site: has been leased by Prime Shine, who plans to redevelop the property as an oil
change/lubrication facility and car wash. Prime Shine's most recent estimate for the start of
construction is June 2000. Chevron has already leased space at the site for a remediation system
compound, and has agreed to coordinate installation of remedial equipment with Prime Shine's
contractor.
Pumping from extraction well EX -1 was initiated on March 24, 2000. Approximately 300 gallons
were pumped in 6.5 hours. On March 30, 2000, GR attempted to re -develop the well to improve
the pumping rate. The well was surged with a vented surge block and hand bailed, then pumped
for approximately 3 hours. Approximately 100 gallons of water were removed. GR is scheduled
to return to the site on a weekly basis to pump from well EX -1 until a permanent pump and treat
system can be installed. Samples were collected from well EX -1 following each pumping event, but
analytical data have not been received. Results will be forwarded upon receipt.
GR has contacted the City of Lodi regarding.discharge of treated system effluent to their industrial
waste lime. This line is installed in Kettleman Lane (State Highway 12). A CalTrans permit is
required to dig the necessary trench to connect to the industrial waste line. Since the City of Lodi
is already scheduled to bring a water line onto the property from a water main located in Kettleman
Lane, they have indicated they want to dig the trenches for both the water line and system effluent
6747 Sierra Court, Suite J • Dublin, California 94568 • ( 9 2 5 ) 551-7555
