i
ATTACHMENT E
FIELD AND LABORATORY PROCEDURES
Site -Specific Health and Safety Plan
As required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Standard
"Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (29 CFR 1910.120), and
by California Occupational Health and Safety Administration (Cal -OSHA) "Hazardous
Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (CCR Title 8, Section 5192),
SECOR will prepare a Site -Specific Health and Safety Plan prior to the commencement of
fieldwork. The Site -Specific Health and Safety Plan will be reviewed by the field staff and
contractors before beginning field operations at the site.
Exploratory Drilling and Soil Sampling
Is The soil borings for the installation of oxygen diffusion/iso-gen wells, will be drilled to
approximately 100 feet bgs. The soil borings for the installation of B -zone monitoring wells
will be drilled to depths of approximately 90 to 100 feet bgs. The soil borings for the
installation of A -zone monitoring wells will be drilled to depths of approximately 65 feet
bgs. The soil borings for the installation of C -zone monitoring wells will be drilled to depths
of approximately 140 feet bgs. The soil boring for the installation of a groundwater
extraction well will be drilled to a depth of approximately 80 feet bgs. Boring EX -3 will be
drilled using 12 -inch air rotary drilling equipment. The other proposed borings will be
drilled using either hollow -stem auger drilling equipment. The borings will be logged by a
SECOR representative using the Unified Soil Classification System and standard geologic
techniques. Soil samples for logging in all monitoring wells (all proposed wells except
EX -3) will be collected continuously using a core tube sampler from 50 feet bgs to the total
completed depth of the borings. Only selected soil samples will be collected above 50 feet
bgs. All soil samples for chemical analysis will be retained in brass liners, capped with
Teflon squares and plastic end caps, and sealed in clean zip -lock bags. The samples will be
placed on ice for transport to the laboratory accompanied by chain -of -custody
documentation. All down -hole drilling and sampling equipment will be steam -cleaned prior
to the drilling of each soil boring. Down -hole sampling equipment will be washed in a tri -
sodium phosphate or alconox solution prior to each sample collection.
•
9-5775WP100900.doc October 10, 2000
