The use of protective clothing greatly enhances the likelihood of heat stress. When site
conditions exceed 70°F,the SSHC will monitor the site conditions and work rates and
implement work/rest regimens, if necessary. Personal heat stress monitoring will be
implemented as described below,as necessary. Workers will be instructed in the
following self-monitoring techniques.
Count the wrist pulse during a 30-second period as early as possible in the rest period.
If the heart rate exceeds 110 beats per minute (BPM) at the beginning of the rest
period, shorten the next work cycle by one-third, and keep the rest period at 10-15
minutes.
i If the heart rate still exceeds 110 BPM at the next rest period, shorten the next work
cycle by one-third and keep the rest period the same.
If the heart rate still exceeds 110 BPM at the next rest period, shorten the following
work cycle by one-third and keep the rest period the same.
Site personnel will be encouraged to take frequent short breaks, drink more fluids than
their usual daily intake, and eat throughout the day to replace fluids and salts lost in
sweat.
4.2.2. Traffic and Heavy Equipment
Clayton will perform environmental oversight during the excavation of soil and purging
of groundwater from the excavations at the project site.
