On July 11 , 1990, four undergroun& storage tanks were <br /> removed from an area east of the maintenance shop at the <br /> Alegre Trucking property by Warren E. Gomes Excavating, <br /> I <br /> Inc. , (Figure 2) . Three 10,000-gallon tanks had contain-ad <br /> diesel fuel and one 8,000-gallon tank had contained gasoline.. 4 <br /> f The tanks were emptied on July 6, 1990. Two soil samples were <br /> taken, by Condor personnel, from approximately 2 feet beneath <br /> each tank, one at each end. The samples were tested for total <br /> extractable petroleum hydrocarbons (TEPH-Diesel ) , total <br /> volatile petroleum hydrocarbons .(TVPH-Gas) and benzene, <br /> { <br /> ' toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylene (BTEX) . <br /> Laboratory analysis of the soil samples indicated <br /> concentrations exceeding laboratory detection limits of diesel <br /> t <br /> and gasoline constituents in the soil beneath the tanks. The <br /> highest concentrations of contamination` were reported coming <br /> li <br /> from the northwest portion of the excavation. Diesel and <br /> gasoline was reported to be as high as 12000 mg/kg and 250 <br /> mg/kg. respectively. Varying levels of BTEX were also <br /> detected. Groundwater was not encountered during the tank <br /> i ( <br /> removal operation. <br /> CONDOR <br /> i <br /> i <br />
