A layer of gray, petroleum-stained soil was
encountered along the north and west walls of the excavation,
at the depth of the former tanks base, (approximately 10
_ feet ) . Laboratory analyses from the previous tank pull
t investigation, dated 7/24/90, indicated that the majority of
j
contamination was located at the base of the excavation along
these walls. Soil was removed from the north and west walls,
until the gray staining and petroleum odor no longer were
t
apparent.
l
Contaminated soil was removed from the walls and base of
F , the excavation to a depth of approximately 31 feet.
s
Excavation procedures were stopped when petroleum staining and
Ji
` odor no longer were detected. FID readings from the walls and
the floor of the excavation showed no detectable
PA
1 contamination. Groundwater was not encountered during
4
excavation procedures and is reported to be located between 40
6
and 45 feet below the surface.
f The contaminated soil (approximately, 1 ,000 cubic yards)
was stockpiled on plastic at the Alegre Trucking site to await
remediation. Approximately 1 ,000 cubic yards of
uncontaminated soil was also removed duriing the excavation
. procedures. The excavation was left open and barricades were
placed around the perimeter.
NX-itt
t
? _ CONDOR i
+ .ws
