U
Subject: Meeting Notes of November 10, 2005
Date: 12/6/2005
Page 3 of 3
pavement, incorporating the separators and pump island;
3) Excavating and removing the two separators;
4) Collecting and analyzing soil samples from the two excavations;
5) Excavating additional soil if contamination is detected;
6) If possible, installing conduits for electricity and pipelines across the excavation for a
possible remediation system;
7) Backfilling, compacting, and resurfacing once excavation is completed;
8) Profiling contaminated soil for transportation and offsite disposal;
9) Transporting concrete for recycling;
10)Evaluating the analytical data; and
11) Preparing a report of separator removal and associated remediation activities.
Mr. Henderson suggested that we perform a pilot test to determine whether full-scale
implementation of remediation would be effective. He also suggested testing wells separately
to evaluate the effectiveness of each. We discussed pilot testing with air sparging coupled with
SVE and also considered dual-phase extraction (DPE). As noted above, PSC and ETIC will
correlate analytical data with hydrogeologic data and review prior system performance data to
evaluate the potential effectiveness of various remedial strategies. From this evaluation, we
will develop and propose a remediation plan. '
• After evaluating various remedial approaches, PSC and ET1C will prepare and submit a
remediation work plan to SJCEHD for approval. Permitting, installation of the system, start-
up, and operation, maintenance, and monitoring would follow.
Should you have any questions about this information, please, feel free to contact Paul Anderson
at (618) 281-1543 or Tom Neely at (925) 602-4710, extension 17.
Respectfully yours,
• , &
Paul Anderson
PSC -Project Manager
LIST OF ATTACHMENTS
FIGURES
Figure 1.
