Site Investigation Report dated August 9, 2004, prepared EY
on your behalf for the above -referenced site. In this report, PSC discusses the results
from the site investigation conducted in June 2004 that involved advancement of four
boreholes to approximately 35 feet below surface grade (bsg), three boreholes to
approximately 100 feet bsg, and sampling of two domestic wells located on an adjacent
property. PSC also discusses the analytical results for groundwater samples collected on
June 21 and 24, 2004 during the quarterly groundwater -monitoring event. Based on these
findings, PSC proposes a reduction in the number of monitoring wells sampled during the
quarterly groundwater monitoring events. PSC also requests that 1,2-dibromoethane
(EDB) be omitted from the analyte list of compounds being tested quarterly in the
groundwater -monitoring program.
EHD approves removal of EDB from the analytical list of compounds tested each quarter
since non -detect results for EDB have been reported for every soil and groundwater
sample during the June 2004 site investigation and groundwater monitoring event. EHD
also approves moving monitoring wells MW -2, MW -3, MW -4, MW -6, MW -9, and MW -
13 from the quarterly to the annual groundwater -monitoring program as annual
monitoring of these wells appears to be adequate to track the plume. However, please do
not exclude these wells from having the water level measurements documented each
quarter for the purpose of determining the groundwater gradient.
To remain in compliance with regulatory requirements, EHD directs you to continue
quarterly groundwater monitoring in accordance with Section 2652 (d) of the California
Code of Regulations, Title 23, Division 3, Chapter 16. Notify Vicki McCartney of EHD
at least forty-eight hours prior to any fieldwork and please include a copy of the original
field data sheets in the quarterly reports. EHD also recommends that you take total depth
measurements for each well during the sampling events and include this data in the
quarterly reports to demonstrate that the wells are properly developed and are yielding
valid data.
