We
have discussed the work plan with the San Joaquin Local Health District
(SJLHD) and we agree it is acceptable, but the following additional
information is to be furnished prior to conducting the work:
1. Supply copies of the laboratory reports for soil and ground water
samples collected when work outlined in the 19 January 1988 work plan
was conducted.
2. Supply a table of the ground water level measurements made at the site.
In addition, on the site map in the work plan the ground water gradient
direction dated 10/14/88 should probably be dated 10/14/87.
3. Provide a well construction diagram for the proposed monitoring wells
which includes specific information, such as the thickness of the
bentonite seal, grout seal, sand pack, etc.
4. Submit a Health and Safety Plan, as required by the SJLHD.
This information is be submitted to us and the SJLHD in an Addendum to the
19 September 1988 work plan before permits to conduct the work will be issued.
All' necessary permits to conduct this worK are'to be obtaine& from the
appropriate local agencies.
We have the following comments and recommendations which are to be addressed
when the proposed work is conducted:
1. Water samples are to be collected from all the monitoring wells
(including monitoring wells MW#2 and MW#3) for BTX&E and TPH analyses.
2. The continuously cored boreholes are to be sampled for laboratory
analysis every 5 -foot interval or change in lithology using a 1.5 -foot -
long split -spoon sampler. These undisturbed soil samples are to be
collected after each 5 -feet of continuous core has been retrieved. We
do not recommend collecting and transferring soil samples to glass jars
for laboratory analysis from the continuous core, as proposed in the
work plan, because the soil will be agitated and volatile hydrocarbons
lost.
3. All ground water and soil sample data are to be presented in tables
within the text of the Problem Assessment Report (PAR).
