W.
r -
I provided information abouttye domestic and irrigation wellsv"'A/nd mass estimates in an
email to you dated September 16, 2011. I also sent anemail to John Carrow,. PG, of PSC
Industrial Outsourcing, LP (PSC) asking him to provide estimates when site conditions
would return to water quality objectives.
John Carrow sent an email to me today in which he pointed out that water quality
objections were addressed in Section 4.1 and 4.2 of Feasibility Study/Remedial Evaluation
and Case Closure Request Report (report), dated 07 October 2009.
PSC did not provide trend analyses for groundwater from PZ -1 and PZ -2 (the two most
impacted wells) for reasons given in Section 4.1 of the report.
Simply put, benzene concentrations will be below the MCL in 35 years and TPH-g
concentrations will be below the ESL in 61 years for groundwater in MW -1; and benzene
concentrations will be below the MCL in 12.5 years and TPH-g concentrations will be below
the ESL in 30 years for groundwater in SP -2.
Based on the information provided, would you like to continue discussions about closure
consideration of this site at our next Unit IV meeting?
Vicki McCartney, Senior REHS
San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department
600 East Main Street
Stockton, California 95202
Phone: (209) 468-9852
Fax: (209) 468-3433
Email: vmccartney@sjcehd.com <mailto:vmccartney@sjcehd.com>
From: Vicki McCartney [EH]
Sent: Friday, September 16, 2011 1:21 PM
To: 'Jim Barton'
Subject: Earthgrains Baking Companies, Inc. site at 2651 Airport Way, Stockton
Good afternoon Jim,
Concerning the Earthgrains Baking Companies' site at 2651 Airport Way in Stockton that we
discussed on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, during the Unit IV meeting, I was able to
verify that one of the domestic wells south of the site has been destroyed. The domestic
well at 2733 South Airport Way was destroyed in 2007. I also was able to verify that the
irrigation well and domestic well at 2607 South Airport Way are still in operation.
During the meeting, you also asked about mass estimates for this site.
The mass estimates were included in Feasibility Study/Remedial Evaluation and Case Closure
Request Report, dated 07 October 2009. PSC reported that 1.6 kilograms (kg) of residual
benzene and. 3,900 kg of residual TPH-g were estimated to be in soil; and 13.6 kg of
residual benzene and 498.4 kg of residual TPH-g were estimated to be in groundwater. Nuel
calculated the masses of benzene and TPH-g in groundwater to be 0.0136 kg and 4.984 kg,
respectively.
Today I sent an email to John Carrow, PG, of PSC Industrial Outsourcing, LP (PSC) asking
him to provide an estimate of the time it will take before the groundwater contaminant
concentrations at this site will return to water quality goals. Once I hear from John, I
will forward this information to you.
Vicki McCartney,.
